Accommodation is provided in well-kept mountain huts. They are heated, some even have electricity and hot water, but they remain nevertheless mountain huts with no luxury and little privacy. You will stay in shared rooms with bunks that you may be forced to share. But in this wild environment, especially if there is difficult weather, these mountain huts will seem like four star hotels! Your guides prepare your breakfast and dinners in the mountain huts. With your help of course! Lunch will be taken in the form of cold picnics on site.

Day 1: Reykjavík – Landmannalaugar
Meet with your guide in Reykjavík and depart by bus to Landmannalaugar through the highlands. You will follow along the volcano, Hekla and cross the fields of Dómadalur before arriving at "Landmannalaugar". This site deserves more than a short visit before heading off on the Laugavegur trek. The afternoon will be spent hiking in the rhyolite mountains of Landmannalaugar, colored by the geothermal activity that is visible in different forms, including a natural hot river that you will enjoy after the long day.
Staying overnight in the Landmannalaugar mountain hut.

Day 2: Landmannalaugar – Hrafntinnusker
The Laugavegur trek. Traverse lava fields and small gorges before heading up to the highlands in an environment of multicolored mountains, hot springs and solfataras. Arriving at the end of the day at Hrafntinnusker hut. You are at an altitude of 1000 meters, and on another world.
Staying overnight in the Hrafntinnusker hut.

Day 3: Hrafntinnusker – Hvanngil
From Hrafntinnusker, you roller-coaster the Jökultungur gullies with its hundreds of hot springs and small blue smoking pools which are surprising colors in this dramatic landscape. On the horizon, you will see the Myrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull glaciers. Soon Alftavatn, "Swan Lake", will appear in front of you. You pass by it before heading to your next stop in the valley of Hvanngil.
Staying overnight in the mountain hut at Hvanngil

Day 4: Hvanngil – Emstrur
You'll go by the foot of Storasula's surprisingly green volcanic cone before reaching the black sand of the Maelifellssandur desert. Then it's off to another ancient volcano, this time with a very characteristic shape, Hattfell or "Hat mountain," whose different shades of green contrast stunningly also with the black sand of the desert. This trail will take you near the Mýrdalsjökull glacier where many nameless waterfalls appeared in the last years due to the melting of the ice. Arriving in the Emstrur area you may even come across some adventurous sheep and before arriving at the mountain hut at Emstrur, we'll walk through the Valley of Fremri-Emstrúa River. You may even discover the impressive Markarfljot canyon that cuts deeper than 200 metres into Hattfell's southern flanks.
Staying overnight at the Botnar hut in Emstrur, in front of the Myrdalsjökull glacier.

Day5: Emstrur – Thorsmörk
You head to the ravine of the Fremri-Emstruá River; the glacier tongues of the Myrdalsjökull glacier come here to melt several kilometres up. As you follow the valley of the Markafljót River the vegetation becomes progressively more abundant and the first dwarf birch trees announce your arrival in the forests of Thor. Thorsmörk. Your arrival in the glacial valley and the white birch forests is enchanting after the desert crossing the day before. The comfortable mountain hut is definitely a welcome sight!
Staying overnight in the Thórsmörk hut

Day 6: Thórsmörk – Fimmvördurháls - Skógar - Reykjavík
Take on the challenge at a height of 1078 meters as you take the pass that dissects the Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers. Half way up, you can detour to the plateau of Morinsheiði to walk on top off the cliffs which give you an astounding view of these ice caps and their surroundings. Now the slope becomes pretty steep and snowfields are more common but at the pass, before the Fimmvördurhals hut, you will discover fields of dark lava and the reddish craters from the eruption of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano in spring 2010. If the weather is clear, you will have a view on the ocean as a reward.
You follow the Skogá River down grassy hills along a nice trail. At the end of this hike, a surprise awaits.....The Skogafoss waterfall, at 60 meters high and 20 meters wide, this waterfall is one of the must see sights and a pleasure to behold.
