Friendly advice for your Chalet renting in Southern Iceland:

The Golden Circle

Discover the oceanic rift at Thingvellir, the geyser “Strokkur” at Geysir and the Gullfoss waterfall where the Hvíta river has created an impressive canyon.

South coast

Discover the marvels lying at the feet of the Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers. Black sand beaches and bird cliffs on the ocean-side of the road. On the other side, innumerable waterfalls crash from cliff tops and glacial tongues drift down from the mountains higher up.

Fjallabak Nature Reserve (summer and 4WD only)

Cross the Fjallaback nature reserve and discover some of the country’s most untouched landscapes, the Helka volcano, the Eldgjá rift, and of course go for a swim in the hot springs at Landmannalaugar, nestled amongst a mountain range turned multicoloured by geothermal activity.

Hveravellir and Kerlingarfjöll (summer and 4WD only)

Along the Kjölur mountain road, reach the mountains of Kerlingarfjöll, inbetween Langjökull and Hofsjökull glaciers. Multicolor landscapes shaped by geothermal activity and glaciers. Then discover Hveravellir’s hot springs where you can bathe in the middle of nowhere.

The “Whale fjord” and Rekholt Valley

Go along the impressive Hvalfördur, « whale fjord », all the way to Reykholt Valley where you will find Deildartunguhver’s hot springs. Discover Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls. 4WD option: Take the Kaldidalur mountain road which links the Reykholt Valley to the south-west of Iceland along the western slopes of Langjökull glacier.

Vestmann Archipelago

From Landeyjahöfn harbor, head to Heymaey, the only inhabited island of the archipelago. Hike along the cliffs and on the slopes of Helgafell volcano. Or board a small boat to observe the cliffs from below in order to discover the biggest colony of puffins in the country.

Thórsmörk Valley (from May to mid-October)

Catch the 4×4 bus at the entrance of this spectacular valley, which cannot be accessed with a rental car. There, you can go hiking in the midst of a green forested valley, surrounded by three glacial volcanoes, including the famous Eyjafjallajökull. Truly one of Iceland most spectacular sites.

Reykjanes Peninsula

Wild coastlines and lunar landscapes shaped by many volcanic eruptions dominate this area. There are many geothermal phenomenons around, whether it is the mud pools at Krýsuvík or the turquoise coloured water of the Blue Lagoon. (optional)
4WD option in summer (open from around the 15th of May or beginning of June at the latest): Take a detour by the surprising Krýsuvíkurberg cliffs and the isolated mountain road of Vigdísarvellir.

N.B.: The mountain roads accessible by 4WD are only open from mid-June to the end of September, depending on how harsh the previous winter was, and on the first snow falls in September.

Les avis de nos voyageurs

Hi Trent,
We are back in the UK and enjoying a bit of warm sunshine after our week in Iceland!
Just wanted to say thank you for sorting out the details of a great holiday – we all loved it! What an amazing place and so easy to get around and see things. Our summerhouse was particularly lovely and a great place to do day trips around the area. The trip to the glacier national park was well worth the kms – all amazed by the iceberg lagoon – the only disappointment was the shocking weather while we were there which meant we couldn’t stand the thought of the boat trip in the driving rain.
We really hope to be back some day.
Best wishes

Claire
