With the itinerary of this self drive, you get to explore the country in 7 days. Driving through Iceland’s most popular spots: the Golden Circle, Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon, its icebergs and diamond beach. Be breath taken by Godafoss and Dettifoss waterfalls, Vik’s black sand beach, the numerous hikes in Skaftafell’s National Park and why not relax at Myvatn’s geothermal pool or the unmissable the Blue Lagoon!
Once at Keflavik international airport, pick up your rental car to start the adventure! Drive to Reykjavik and settle in your accommodation. You have the rest of the day to discover the city at your rhythm.

Today you’re off to one of Iceland’s most famous spots : the Golden Circle. Start with Pingvellir National Park, named UNESCO World Heritage in 2004. Then, drive to Geysir, the famous geysers in the geothermal area of Haukadalur Valley, including the powerful Strokkur shooting boiling water up to 40 meters! Continue with Gullfoss waterfall, where the water drops 32 meters down in two steps in a display of nature’s raw power. On your way to the most southern village in Iceland, Vik, why not stop at Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull, ice-covered volcanoes. In Vik, discover the black sand beach and the impressive cliffs of Dyrhólaey.

Today head East ! Drive through the Myrdalssandur desert and through the Lava field of Eldhraun until the National Park of Skaftafell. Here you can hike around the park and discover the Svartifoss, with its beautiful basalt columns and splendid waterfall. Continue east to Jökulsárlón’s glacial Lagoon and be amazed by landscapes similar to Greenland, with its spectacular icebergs and the famous Diamond beach.

Continue your way East and discover the wild landscapes shaped by the last glaciations, the seals of Lonsvik, the rock and mineral museum of Petra at Stöðvarfjörður and the charming harbor od Djúpivogur.
Night in Egilsstaðir area– breakfast included
Drive all the way up to Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall. After some nice hikes at the Ásbyrgi canyon, take time to relax in an outdoor geothermal pool. Mývatn area is home to some of the most surprising geological and geothermal activity in Iceland and has a large variety of birds as well as odd lava formations.

Akureyri, the « capital of north », stop by the famous Goðafoss falls, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the country falling from a height of 12 metres (39 feet) over 30 meters wide(98 feet).

Sleep in an ice cave
Do you long to experience the deep cold? Well put on your crampons and helmet, grab your ice pick and traverse a glacier to explore an ice cave that will also be your accommodation for the night.
The exact location is confidential, but we can tell you that it is located 25 km from the Skaftafell region.
Once you have arrived at the Vatnajökull glacier, it’s time to meet your equipment! Helmets, crampons and ice picks will make sure you are properly prepared! Enter the ice cave and be amazed by the many focal points as you discover the various shades of blue created by the varied density of the ice.
After a local Icelandic diner, set out your sleeping bag and enjoy your night under the glacier. What an adventure!

Night on a glacier cap
From Reykjavík to the Lanjökull glacier, your guide will drive you in a 4×4 that is specially equipped for the glacier. Once off the main tracks, you’ll exchange your comfort for an exceptional experience. Your driver-guide will drive on the glacier and then find the perfect shelter for the night. When you have set up camp, you’ll have time to appreciate this white desert. Like an explorer, you will truly experience these polar conditions.
In the morning, you’ll take a short glacier walk to discover your icy surroundings. Then it will be time to head back to Reykjavík and the comfort of the city.
