Exploring the Golden Circle

This morning, you leave the Reykjanes peninsula towards the green south and the region of Hveragerði. Here, geothermal energy shapes daily life, from greenhouses warmed by natural heat to geothermal cooking and power plants. It’s a place where you can enjoy the raw energy of Iceland underground!
From there, you’re off to discover Iceland’s famous Golden Circle. You’ll continue your drive passing through fertile farmlands to reach the famous Strokkur geyser in Geysir (the place that originally gave the phenomenon its name). A bit further is the Gullfoss waterfall, where the Hvítá River has created an impressive canyon.
You’ll arrive at your hotel by evening. For those seeking an extra experience, consider a horseback ride in the Hveragerði area, a unique way to enjoy the surrounding scenery.

Day 3
Echoes of the Highlands
Haifoss waterfall
Today’s journey takes you to the Hjalparfoss waterfall, the reconstructed Viking farm at Þjóðveldisbær, and the serene Gjáin gorge, a valley laced with walking trails and hidden viewpoints. Continue through the Thjórsá River valley, where your route leads to the majestic Háifoss waterfall, one of Iceland’s tallest.
Following the trail dotted with small creeks, you’ll drive across the eastern countryside and take in views of Mt. Hekla and the volcanic plateaus of the Icelandic highlands. From here, the route brings you to the south coast, where the Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers form a dramatic backdrop. On one side of the road, black sand beaches and bird-filled cliffs meet the Atlantic; on the other, waterfalls plunge from cliff edges while glacial tongues extend from the mountains.
Stop to admire Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, two of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls, before visiting the Skógar Heritage Museum to learn more about the region’s history and culture.

Your day begins at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the location of the world’s oldest parliament. Then drive on the shores of the long and impressive Hvalfjördur, or “whale fjord”, and hike to Iceland’s highest waterfall, Glymur (200m) before heading back to Reykjavík.
