As an island home to over 300 different species of birds, Iceland has the largest marine bird population in all of Europe. Whether or not you are an avid ornithologist, in Iceland, you can’t escape the presence of our feathered friends. Besides our famous puffins, you will also admire many other bird species like guillemots, cormorants, arctic sterns, eiders and wild geese. But watch out for the great skua that will chase you if you threaten its young. Iceland is also famous for the magestic whales that live in its seas. o need to go all the way to Antarctica to see icebergs! Iceland has lots of them. Jokulsarlon, a glacial lagoon on the island’s Southern coast lies at the foot of Europe’s biggest glacier, Vatnajoküll. A couple of hours from Reykjavik, this out of the ordinary destination is great for exploration year round. You can even take a mini-cruise between the icebergs and observe some snoozing seals. Finally, you’ll visit the nearby beach to watch enormous ice cubes finish melting on the black sand.
