Stay in a cozy summerhouse in the south of Iceland, it will be your comfortable base to discover the countryside. The south of Iceland offers an incredible variety of landscapes and atmospheres. Wild coastlines interrupted by cliffs and wide, black sand beaches, green pastures watered by many waterfalls and rivers, and let’s not forget the geyser Strokkur at Geysir. There is the Blue Lagoon, the impressive rift at Thingvellir, the Hekla and Eyjafjallajökull volcanoes … And, that’s just the beginning. You will also see gigantic glaciers, including Mýrdalsjökull and Langjökull. Hop aboard a boat for a trip to the Vestmann islands where the biggest colony of puffins in Iceland can be found.

Usually, it is only possible to rent a summerhouse for a minimum of 3 nights (Thursday to Sunday), or 4 nights. (Sunday to Thursday) And for 7 nights. (Thursday to Thursday or Sunday to Sunday)

Check-out from the summer house before noon and enjoy more of the countryside on your way back to Reykjavík.
Option: If you have an evening departure, there is a possibility to return your car directly at Keflavík airport.

Spend a few days in one of the summerhouses Icelanders build all over the country for their weekends, in winter and summer. They are also available for rental by travellers that wish to discover the country or just relax with friends or family. There are many in the south-west of Iceland within 150km from Reykjavík, but they are also all over the country. They are always in the country-side, in a calm and relaxed environment.
They are all perfectly equipped and some even have hot tubs or saunas! Internet connection, washing machines, DVD player, etc… can be available depending on the summerhouse. Most of them have a terrace and a barbecue.
You can rent them all year round. Mostly for a week but also for a shorter (3 or 4 days) or longer time.
From simple cottages to luxury summerhouses, there are houses available for all people and price-range, for couples, large family or a group of friends.
From 500 Euros a week in low season for a 4 persons summerhouse. 30 Euros for bed linens per person.

The Golden Circle
Discover the oceanic rift at Thingvellir, the geyser “Strokkur” at Geysir and the Gullfoss waterfall where the Hvíta river has created an impressive canyon.
South coast
Discover the marvels lying at the feet of the Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers. Black sand beaches and bird cliffs on the ocean-side of the road. On the other side, innumerable waterfalls crash from cliff tops and glacial tongues drift down from the mountains higher up.
Fjallabak Nature Reserve (summer and 4WD only)
Cross the Fjallaback nature reserve and discover some of the country’s most untouched landscapes, the Helka volcano, the Eldgjá rift, and of course go for a swim in the hot springs at Landmannalaugar, nestled amongst a mountain range turned multicoloured by geothermal activity.
Hveravellir and Kerlingarfjöll (summer and 4WD only)
Along the Kjölur mountain road, reach the mountains of Kerlingarfjöll, inbetween Langjökull and Hofsjökull glaciers. Multicolor landscapes shaped by geothermal activity and glaciers. Then discover Hveravellir’s hot springs where you can bathe in the middle of nowhere.
The “Whale fjord” and Rekholt Valley
Go along the impressive Hvalfördur, « whale fjord », all the way to Reykholt Valley where you will find Deildartunguhver’s hot springs. Discover Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls. 4WD option: Take the Kaldidalur mountain road which links the Reykholt Valley to the south-west of Iceland along the western slopes of Langjökull glacier.
Vestmann Archipelago
From Landeyjahöfn harbor, head to Heymaey, the only inhabited island of the archipelago. Hike along the cliffs and on the slopes of Helgafell volcano. Or board a small boat to observe the cliffs from below in order to discover the biggest colony of puffins in the country.
Thórsmörk Valley (from May to mid-October)
Catch the 4×4 bus at the entrance of this spectacular valley, which cannot be accessed with a rental car. There, you can go hiking in the midst of a green forested valley, surrounded by three glacial volcanoes, including the famous Eyjafjallajökull. Truly one of Iceland most spectacular sites.
Reykjanes Peninsula
Wild coastlines and lunar landscapes shaped by many volcanic eruptions dominate this area. There are many geothermal phenomenons around, whether it is the mud pools at Krýsuvík or the turquoise coloured water of the Blue Lagoon. (optional)
4WD option in summer (open from around the 15th of May or beginning of June at the latest): Take a detour by the surprising Krýsuvíkurberg cliffs and the isolated mountain road of Vigdísarvellir.
N.B.: The mountain roads accessible by 4WD are only open from mid-June to the end of September, depending on how harsh the previous winter was, and on the first snow falls in September.
