During the day, a number of exciting excursions to Iceland’s southern coast are possible; while at night, you can soak in one of Reykjavík’s many hot tubs or explore the trendy bar and restaurant scene. Your accomodation during your Reykjavik Getaway

Take your pick: hotels, mountain huts, campsites…

Hostel

If you have a backpacker’s soul, a small budget, or are travelling to Iceland alone, this may be a good option for you.

Guesthouse

Whether they are someone’s actual home or an establishment more like a cosy and simple inn, Reykjavik guesthouses most often offer the best access to downtown.

3 Star Hotel

Three star hotels are often in the middle of downtown areas. When they are not, they are about ten minutes away by taxi or bus. The accommodations are simple but many offer possible upgrades and triple rooms if travelling as a family.

4 Star Hotel

Since extravagance and 5 star hotels are hard to come by in Iceland, these are the most deluxe options for your stay. The downtown hotels are comfortable, centrally located and reasonably spacious. They have quality restaurants and excellent efficient service.

Appartment

If you chose to do this Iceland travel with your family or in a group of friends, you can rent apartments in Reykjavik by the day or by the week.

Friendly advice for your Reykjavik Getaway:

  • Discover Reykjavík with the Reykjavík Welcome Card
The “Reykjavík Welcome Card” gives you access to a great number of museums including the national museum and the museum of modern art, as well as all of the city’s thermal pools, and unlimited access to it´s buses. We will give you this card along with a brochure full of useful information including hours of operation of points of interest, city maps, and maps of the public transportation system.

  • Day trip to the southern coast
Stop to discover the beautiful waterfall of Seljalandsfoss. At Skógar, you’ll fall in love with the magnificent Skógafoss waterfall, and, depending on road conditions, you’ll go to the extremity of the Solheimajökull glacial tongue or visit the folk museum at Skogar, whose vast collection of ancient objects and reconstructed traditional farmhouse will give you an idea of traditional Icelandic life and history. Arrive in Vík around lunchtime, and eat before discovering the Dyrhólaey cliffs. Take a walk on the beautiful black sand beach at Reynishverfi and delight in observing its famous basaltic columns.

  • Golden Circle day trip
Discover Iceland’s most iconic sites, that together make up Iceland’s “Golden Circle”. First, you’ll stop in Geyser to watch the famous “Strokkur” geyser, that erupts 20 metres into the air every 5 to 8 minutes. You can also visit it’s multimedia museum. From here, you’ll go on to the impressive Gulfoss falls, “Golden falls”. Visit Thingvellir, the original site of the world’s oldest existing parliamentary institution. Here, walk along the Almmannagjá fault to observe continental rift until you reach the waterfall of Öxararfoss.

  • Blue Lagoon Excursion
Don’t miss this geothermal and geologic marvel only 50km from Reykjavik. You can spend several very pleasant hours here, or even the whole day if you decide to stay for lunch or indulge in one of the many spa treatments offered on site. Swimming in this turquoise water rich in silica and mineral salt that stays at a temperature around 40° is a must for all travellers to Iceland!

  • Landmannalaugar Excursion
Take off through the southern countryside along the flanks of the famous Hekla volcano and their lava fields. Keep on in the direction of Landmannalaugar through unique untouched landscapes. Walk to discover obsidian flows, hot water sources, fumaroles, and multi-coloured rhyolite mountains. Dive into Landmannalaugar’s natural hot water river!

  • Reykjavik whale watching
Every day from the beginning of April to the end of October. Leaving from the Reykjavík harbour, this foray into the sea lasts about 3 hours. From May to mid-August, Iceland’s iconic bird, the Atlantic Puffin, is likely to be seen.
